Fortrus are delighted to announce that NMUH successfully went live last week with ‘Unity’

Press Release   •   Mar 10, 2016 10:15 GMT

North Middlesex University Hospital (NMUH) is one of London’s busiest acute hospitals, serving more than 350,000 people living in Enfield and Haringey and the surrounding areas, including Barnet and Waltham Forest.

Fortrus are delighted to announce that NMUH successfully went live last week with ‘Unity’ an Electronic Document Management System (EDMS), which forms part of the Trust wide IT Strategy to be fully digital by 2017 at the earliest, ensuring all patient records are digitally available at the point of care. The Unity solution was initially deployed in Paediatrics OPD, enabling users to access digitised patient records amalgamated with patient attendance information. By providing an augmented timeline view and numerous tools for navigating and searching the record, the solution will help clinicians make better informed decisions for patient care.

Working with Fortrus, NMUH have begun an 18-month programme to scan all clinical records that will become part of the electronic patient record eco-system that is already in place. NMUH anticipate that well over one million scanned documents will be uploaded into the EDMS, in addition to which any paper records coming in from other care providers – GPs, community nurses, etc, will also be scanned and uploaded.

Unity emerged from research conducted with over 800 senior clinicians across multiple organisations. The findings of this research identified three key challenges when working in an data-intensive environment.

  1. 1) Fragmented computer systems and databases
  2. 2) Delays in gaining access to critical information.
  3. 3) Increasing pressures to find efficiencies.

Unity solves these problems by acting as a control layer, that whilst able to draw from multiple complex databases, means that we can develop flexible and bespoke user interfaces for minimal cost. The result is a software solution that suites the specific data-intensive needs of your organisation.
